Mum TAG video | Seek the joy.

Hi friends,
Happy Friday! Today’s video is one I filmed a few weeks ago, a “Mum Tag” – if you would like to watch it click HERE… (It’s a bit of a long one so maybe go get a cuppa or a drink & a snack!)
I apologise for being a little scatter brained in the video – my brain has been chaos lately & filming with kids is a bit of a challenge!

I just want to touch on the subject that I went off on a bit of tangent with at the end and make my point clear, in the video it got a little rambly & I was distracted so I didn’t make my point exactly, so lets talk about…
Looking for the joy daily….
I’ve been criticised in the past online for being “too positive” or not promoting the real side of motherhood… I am real, I speak my own truth and what I put online is my life – it isn’t staged or fake – I am me. I like things a certain way, I do clean too much & 98% of the time I absolutely love being a Mumma & a wife, I truly do feel it’s what I’m here to do… The other 2% of the time is usually when I am in a zombie state and can barely make myself a cup of tea I am so tired or sick and feel like I am failing – those days can suck…. Those days, they aren’t so wonderful – but they are there… Just like every Mumma in this world, I struggle some days too. But I’m not about to start trashing my kids & husband online and being crass & classless just for likes and comments, I am not going to focus on the negativity. I do motherhood my way –  just like I blog my own way, I relish in the good days and note down why they were so wonderful and on the hard days when I feel like I’ve failed or like my life is off course, I search for 1 tiny good thing to hold onto and focus on. 1 thing that shined during that gloomy day. I scrape through the remains of the day, searching for something that shone. Then I hold on to it, treasure it and toss the rest away.
I focus on the sparkle. I refuse to dwell on what goes wrong. 10 years from now I will have no desire at all to read how hard my life was. Because I am not hard done by, my life is what I make of it. I chose this life & it is up to me to make the most of it.
My life 10 years ago as a 19 year old was hard, I know that, to be honest it was one of the most dreadful times of my life & I wish I could forget it, I didn’t document every single day where I struggled or the awful things that happened. I just know it – to be honest I wish I could erase the awful parts from my memory. Life is hard, every season brings new highs & lows – at the end of my life I want to have my brain trained so I am replaying my highlight reel, I am remembering the good, what went right, all the magic in the small monotonous  everyday moments… That’s what I want to remember. I don’t want to be dwelling on the negativity & what went wrong.
I am not saying lie or pretend everything is perfect – no one’s life is perfect. I am just sharing with you what works for me to maintain my sanity.
In my life I have a lot that isn’t perfect and a lot that really hurts, I have countless reasons to throw my hands in the air and declare life is too hard, but I refuse to sit around and be miserable about it. I find the more I dwell on something the worse it is. I don’t give negative moments too much attention or thought, I find negativity explodes with attention. “What you feed will grow”
I want the positivity to grow, so that’s what I chose to focus on & highlight.
Doing project 365 (1 photo everyday for 1 year) I feel truly helps me, everyday I am training my mind to look for the good, the magic moments. The everyday sparkle & be thankful. My brain is so conditioned now to seek the joy & focus on that, that most days I don’t even need to think hard or try to find something. Of course there are days when it’s not so glorious – but that is life. There are highs & lows…
So friends, I encourage you if you are having a rough day, search for one thing that is awesome about your day. Or if you are searching for something to do to document your everyday during 2018 (yes, because 2018 is now just under 2 months away!) I highly recommend doing Project 365 – do it your own way, write about and document what matters to you… I started a new Instagram account at the start of 2017 to document ours, and at the end of this year (or lets be honest, somewhere probably around February 2018) – I will make 2 photo books for the kids and they will have that forever.
I hope this post has encouraged you a little. Motherhood can be rough, I get it. But try focusing on what went right instead of what went wrong at the end of today.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Being on live TV. {VLOG}

Hey friends!

The past few weeks have been a little bit of a whirlwind… After THIS blog post was shared on the Daily Mail I had a few interesting emails. From magazines and TV stations… It was all very sudden & surprising! The TV show I decided to go on was the Today Extra show… (I found out everyone is very competitive and if you are being on one show, they don’t want you chatting to others etc… So I kind of had to pick one.)
So Thursday the 12th of October I was set to be on on live TV… Yes, I do make YouTube videos & I love that – but live TV is a whole different ball game. I am fine chatting to myself on camera and I can redo my video if I mess up, with a live TV segment – that’s it. If you mess up, well – not much you can do… But, I was determined to do it, so nerves shoved aside – I was doing this! I just prayed super hard I didn’t blank, swear or faint!

So last Thursday I was awake bright and early and I headed to Brisbane with my best friend Kelsie and my little man Tommy…
I vlogged a little of our of day and in the video I also include my segment from the Today Extra show – you can watch it HERE.

img_5481

Thank you to channel 9 and the Today Extra show for having me on the show, thanks to my sweet hair & makeup lady that made me look so good on TV and to the producers for being so easy to work with and for answering my endless questions.
Biggest thank you to my constant support system, Trent, Kelsie and my kids. Thank you Trent for staying home with the girls & thanks Kels for coming to Brisbane with me, dealing with my minor anxiety attack & for loving on my sweet little man, I am so glad you were there with me. Thank you also to all my friends & family who knew about this leading up to it and were my cheer squad and encouraged me to jump at this chance. You all mean so much to me. Thanks to my sister for talking me through finding the right top for TV & encouraging me to try a different colour! You were right, it looked nice!
And thank you to you guys, without my friends/readers/supporters I wouldn’t get opportunities like this – so thank you!
This month has been an absolute whirlwind, for my little blog and also for our family, our life is nonstop lately & I’m a bit tired… More on that another day though.
Have a wonderful weekend…

Spring morning routine. {2017}

Hey friends!
For today’s video I have my SPRING MORNING ROUTINE. You can watch it HERE.

Spring Morning Routine

Now, my routine evolves with whatever is going in our life & also with the seasons… The days are starting sooner now & the mornings are so beautiful & warm so we are able to get out and enjoy time outside before the heat of the day.

This routine is when Trent is on day shift, when he is on days off & night shift the routine may change slightly… But when he is on days on, this is pretty much what I do every morning up until around 9:30am. I get a lot done between when we wake up and until Tommy has his first nap. I get my jobs for the day out of the way as fast as possible so the children and I can enjoy our day.

My typical morning looks like;

  • Wake up anywhere between 5:30am-6:30am… Then snuggle in bed!
  • I start my diffuser, I use doTERRA essential oils... (If you would like more info on them please feel free to message me or click HERE.) In this particular video I am using grapefruit, litsea & easy air. I find this blend uplifting & motivating and easy air helps with sinus!
  • I unload the dishwasher (I always run my dishwasher each night)
  • I make our breakfast.
  • The kids go in the playroom to play.
  • I clean the kitchen, wipe down benches, take rubbish out and clean the highchair.
  • Make my bed. My bed has to be made each day!
  • I get myself ready for the day, I like to do really basic makeup & fix my hair quickly, that way I just feel a little better about myself.
  • Put on a load of laundry.
  • Dress the kids, clean teeth etc.
  • Vacuum & mop.
  • Then we all head out into the backyard to water our gardens.
  • We go for a walk around our local area.
  • Peg the laundry out.
  • Come inside, wash hands.
  • LuLu has quiet play time while I cuddle Tommy to sleep.
  • LuLu and I have some fruit together.

That’s our usual routine and I feel having predictable days is so good for kids, they know what’s happening and are more at ease.
What does a normal morning at your house usually look like?

New Hair Reveal {VLOG}

Hi friends,
I have an exciting video to share with you all today… Yesterday I spent the majority of my day at the hairdressers cutting & recolouring my hair – click HERE to watch the video to see how it turned out!

I am really happy with the result and cutting my hair I feel is so liberating. For a very long time I have had super long hair and it wasn’t until about 2 years ago I was brave enough to do a big chop… Since the initial “big cut”, I have cut it short one other time but then I let it grow a bit for my best friends wedding that I was recently in. Now that the wedding has been & gone I decided it was time to do a big change!
Cutting my hair to me is powerful, it took a lot of courage for me to first do it at the end of 2015, as I was going against the wishes of my someone whose opinion I listened to far more than I should’ve… I valued that opinion more than my own and that was ridiculous.  I was told for a very long time how ugly and awful I would look with short hair as long hair was my “only beauty”. (For long time readers, you may remember seeing that public conversation on a photo a few years back on my Facebook page…) Since then I have regained control in my life, I call my own shots and the only time I listen to opinions is when they either come from my husband or I actually ask someone I trust greatly to weigh in on a topic.
So as I felt my hair get snipped off I felt relief & like an emotional weight was going as well – this was the first time I was cutting my hair and I wouldn’t have to hear from someone how awful I looked or what a fool I was.
I love my new hair. I think it is fun, fresh & different and my surprise little chunk of colour for LuLu makes me smile. And LuLu and Trent think it is great!

Friends, I encourage you to remember to do things for you. Don’t always follow what others say and make sure the people you are listening to are respectful of you. I now only ask advice from trusted people who I know will respect me if I do or if I don’t follow their advice. We are our own person, we have to do things that make us happy – my hair is mine and it effects no one else, so me cutting it is for me. This should be applied to most things in life, do what makes you happy & what you feel is right for you – if it isn’t hurting anyone then the opinions of others shouldn’t matter greatly to you.

I would love to know what brave step you’ve done with your hair? Or have you never done something drastic?

Entire house clean | Cleaning vlog.

Happy Saturday friends!

After I posted my power hour cleaning video the other week I received so many lovely messages on Instagram, Facebook & snapchat about how my video motivated some of you to clean your homes! That makes me so happy to know I’ve encouraged some of you in that way!

So today, I am back with another cleaning video. You can watch it HERE. (Keep an eye out for the sweetest little bit just after 15mins)
clean thumbnail

This one is a bit longer, but it is more vlog/day in the life style video. In this video I have to do semi deep clean of our home… I like to do a good clean like this about once a week – a week & a half. Basically whenever Trent is off & he can entertain the kids for a few hours! It also makes sense to do this clean when he is home as when he goes back to shift the house is very clean & the cleaning I do daily is more of a maintenance style of a cleaning. Like wiping down surfaces, vacuuming with my stick vac, mopping when needed & general tidying up. But on days like this day I like to more thoroughly clean and use my bigger Dyson to vacuum before mopping.
I find doing a little cleaning every single day makes cleaning days like this a lot easier. A big day of cleaning still is exhausting because I basically find things to do all day and really make sure I get as much done as I possibly can, but I feel very accomplished at the end of it. I personally find vacuuming with that big Dyson so tiring – I really like my little stick vac, but I like the deep clean the bigger one gives my carpets.
Also can we talk about how much of a work out changing sheets is! Gosh, it’s tough! Like I said in the video, I never go to a gym – but I feel like I get a work out in when I do a day of cleaning!
img_2092

Isn’t the feeling of having a completely freshly cleaned home the best? I just love it – especially the next morning when I wake up and everything is so neat & tidy!
Thank you so much for reading this post & watching my video, I would love to know your thoughts – please comment below or on my social media!

Reusing old flowers | Flower craft {video}

Happy Friday friends!

Friday means new video day! And HERE is the latest one.

In this video, I show you an arts & craft project LuLu did with a bouquet of flowers that had dried out a bit… We recycled them to be craft supplies and tools!
This is a quick and easy activity to set up & my daughter (miss 4 in 2 months!) had a wonderful time to doing the craft…img_1185

Invitation to play: I set up our craft table with some paper plates of paint and laid out the flowers so she could chose which ones she wanted to use. Then I left her to make her own choices about how she paints & what colours (I just filmed it). The stems of the flowers make wonderful handles! LuLu swished, swirled, dabbed and painted with the flowers & then she painted & glittered the actual flowers!
The end result is actually quiet lovely & sweet, I think these would make a sweet gift from a grandmother or aunt! (The flowers we used are ones that dry & last very well (proteas), I suggest using a similar hardy dried flower if you are wanting to keep them/gift them, however any flower can be used to paint with!)img_1188img_1187

Learning benefits of this activity:

  • Bilateral Co-ordination; Can be strengthened with crafts.
  • Creative skills; Feeling different textures, improving her painting skills & expressing herself with what she likes.
  • Cognitive thinking; Understanding cause & effect (mixing colours,) & visual processing.
  • Motor skills; painting, sprinkling glitter, controlling tricky objects to paint with.
  • Thinking skills; Considering options & making decisions.
  • Problem Solving; Working out ways to paint the flowers.
  • Colour recognition.

I hope you enjoyed this post & if you do a craft like this I would love to see it! Please tag me in your posts on social media!

How to save money on groceries. {video}

Hi friends!

It is new video Friday!! Click HERE to watch my latest youtube upload!

Grocerythumbnail.jpg

This weeks video is a groceries on a budget | grocery haul video…
On this particular week we had our normal bills to pay, which we always plan for, but then some unexpected ones popped up and that is life – that happens… But it meant our groceries that week had to be a little more thought out…
I try to be budget conscious when I am shopping anyway, but on this particular day I was more focused on sticking to the list and not buying any extras… Our usual grocery shop is about $200/week – week and a half… That includes, dog food, cat food, cat litter & nappies & wipes… Those 5 things are so darn pricey, added with a lot of fruit & veg and meat = pretty expensive groceries! We often try to stay in front of needing extra pet food so if we need to, we can skip a week of buying them…

Tips for saving money on groceries…

  • Write a list and stick to it… If you go in with no set list, you may buy unnecessary items & not what you actually need.
  • Meal plan & shop from your kitchen first… Write out your meals for the week and shop from your fridge, pantry & freezer… Make meals around what you have left and write down what you need for the rest of the meals.
  • Go meat free… Now anyone who knows us knows we love meat, we eat a lot of it… But not every one of our meals is a meat based meal… During a week we often have 1 or 2 meat free dishes, such as cannelloni, risotto, pumpkin soup etc… Not eating meat can be a wise money saving move, as meat is expensive.
  • Hunt… If you can & if it appeals to you. We have delicious fresh venison in our freezer that my husband was able to get for us. Not everyone can do this or wants to do this, but if you can, it is a great way to have some beautiful free range meat for very little money. (This also applies to growing your own, have a veggie garden or some chickens for fresh eggs!)
  • Budget… Occasionally if I am watching what we spend, I set a goal for my total and I write down the price of every item I buy as I shop (yes I am that woman) that way I know if I am over spending and also when I get to the check out there is no surprises – I also find it motivating to try and beat my “goal total”…
  • Check specials… Each week I check where nappies are on sale, they are normally our most expensive item so I look at Coles & Woolworths online before I leave the house and see who has them cheaper, normally that is a saving of around $5.
  • Keep a well stocked kitchen… Always remember ingredients you use regularly, like pasta, sauces, flour, sugar, spices, meat etc and keep them on hand and stocked up. And if you can, buy them when on special and stock up! If roasts are on sale I often buy 2 at once and one goes in the freezer for the following week.
  • Buy in season produce… Now, I don’t always do this because I have a certain little miss who loves blueberries all year round, but the smart thing is not to pay $7 for a small punnet of them and wait until they are affordable and that is when they are in season… Also check out farmers markets for great fresh produce!
  • Try and shop on the outside aisles & skip the middle or some aisles… Sticking to the fruit & veg area, meat department & the dairy/freezer section can help save us money & be healthier! Avoiding the middle aisles that are full of preservative filled foods is better for us and our wallets. That being said, I do still wander down them, but I very often skip the soft drink & chip aisle as we don’t really buy soft drinks or lots of chips – only on the odd occasion, or I walk quickly down the middle aisles knowing exactly what I need and not browsing each item…
  • Try to be focused when shopping… Know the item you need, get it – perhaps have a quick look for a cheaper alternative but don’t be distracted by items you don’t need or can’t afford.
  • Check out the discount trolley… Occasionally they will have things like cat litter or pet food marked down super cheap because it may have been torn… Even sometimes they have end of line, discontinued products there that have been marked down super cheap! Try to only buy what you NEED though, not unnecessary things just because it is “on sale”… If you genuinely need it now or will do in the very near future it is a smart move, but buying “just because it’s cheap” isn’t actually saving you money.
  • Don’t buy ready made… Sometimes premade/chopped/sliced items are great time savers… But you have to weigh up money for time sometimes… I tend not to buy grated or sliced cheese, veggies and most of my pasta meals I make the sauce for. (Except spaghetti Bolognese/cannelloni – but I have to get back into making tomato pasta sauces)
  • Use rewards cards… I always make sure to scan my flybuys or everyday rewards cards, each amount of points adds up to be money off in the future and this can be super helpful – especially around Christmas time… I think these sort of loyalty cards are well worth having!
  • Make your own… Household cleaners are so insanely expensive and we can make wonderful alternatives that work just as well! I have been making my own laundry powder for well over a year now & I do make my own cleaners as well. I have recently bought Method glass cleaner & timber polish, only because I am struggling to work out a recipe for those that works well… A bottle of white vinegar is just over $1 & a packet of bi-carb soda is around the same amount… With those 2 ingredients you can clean almost anything. I use both of those to clean my toilet, together they can be used with a bit of dish soap to clean the bath/sink/shower/grout. Vinegar + water + essential oil of your choice (optional) makes a great disinfectant. Vinegar is also a fantastic fabric softener.
  • Bake your own… I often bake our morning/afternoon tea treats instead of buying them… Firstly because I feel better letting LuLu eat a treat that I know what is exactly in it and secondly I find it to be cheaper… My pantry is always stocked with baking supplies so it is easy for us to whip something up.

Also check out the blog Domesblissity, Anne who writes the blog is so full of knowledge on leading a sensible life & saving money! I learn so much from her posts!

Power Hour video | Cleaning tips.

A clean home, is a happy home.

Hi friends!
I just posted a new video on YouTube – my first ever power hour/clean with me video! To check it out click HERE!speed clean

Now, let’s talk power hours/speed cleaning/timed cleaning…
What is a power hour? Basically you write out a list of jobs, set a timer and do as much as possible in that time frame… I regularly do cleaning sessions like this, especially when Trent is home to distract the kids for me. When I am home on my own, my cleaning is normally done when I can fit it in… I usually try to complete my cleaning in the morning & that way it’s done for the day and then I can focus on the kids… I do really enjoy it though when I have my own spare time and I can focus on getting stuck into cleaning really good and completing most of my to-do list – I find it so satisfying & feel very accomplished!
Even on the days we are super busy, I try to set aside at least 10-20 minutes of focused cleaning, that may just involve putting the laundry on, making the bed, cleaning the kitchen & vacuuming. You will surprise yourself with how much you can get done in such a short time frame & it is great motivation to “race the clock”.

In the video you’ll see me tidy the kitchen, our bedroom, ensuite, dining room, lounge, bring the laundry in & put away, vacuum and also pick up in the play room & LuLu’s room.
Some notes from the video;
I get easily side tracked when cleaning, I have my list but then I just get in a cleaning zone & just clean everything I touch… Which is why in the video I just decide to randomly clean the stove top & range hood and then decide to dust/polish the bedroom. I am just a tiny bit of a clean freak…

These are some tips I follow so I can easily maintain my home so it’s always tidy & clean;

Kitchen; aim to have clear benches. It just makes the kitchen look neater and it’s easier to clean. On my front benches I have nothing that permanently stays there, on my back benches I have appliances I use regularly… Mainly because I don’t have storage big enough for the kitchen aid & thermomix. Flat surfaces, especially kitchen benches tend to become dumping grounds for “junk” – try to eliminate that by having a place for everything or making a daily effort to clear off surfaces. Try to clean your kitchen every night, it’s always so lovely waking up to a clean kitchen!

Bathooms; wipe down daily or every second day. If you clean regularly, this stops dirt & grime building up – so cleaning is easier. If left to get very dirty – then it takes more effort & time.

Laundry; if possible fold laundry at the clothes line/dryer – that way once inside you just have to put it all away. Occasionally it’s not possible for me to fold it at the line (maybe I am in a rush, it’s raining or way too windy) in this case I fold everything as soon as I get inside. Doing the task immediately instead of putting it off I find is the best course of action, then it’s done… If you leave it to sit, you just keep putting it off and the pile grows.

Floors; invest in a stick vac & vacuum daily! I vacuum at least once a day, usually twice. This comes back to my point about the bathrooms (& honestly, just cleaning anything in general!) – cleaning regularly makes cleaning easier. If you let everything build up it becomes overwhelming and a bigger task – doing a little or quick clean every single day makes everything easier.

I hope you found this video & post motivating & helpful.
